Every fall somebody walks into the shop, picks up a candle, smells it, and goes quiet for a second. Then they tell me exactly where it took them. A hayride when they were eight. Their mom's kitchen the night before Thanksgiving. The orchard their family drove to every October. That moment is the whole reason Wicksy exists, so this year I wanted to put together a little guide to our fall scents based on the memory you're chasing instead of a list of notes.
Find the fall moment that feels most like you, and I'll point you to the jar that smells like it.
If your favorite part of fall is the pumpkin patch
Go with Pumpkin Patch. I built this one around that first truly cold evening of the season, when you're walking back to the car with a pumpkin that's way too heavy and somebody hands you a warm cider. It opens with pumpkin vine, ginger, cinnamon and a little cardamom and clove, softens into nutmeg, vanilla and pumpkin, and settles into sandalwood and praline. It's spiced without being sharp, which makes it an easy one to burn all season long.
If you like your pumpkin on the sweeter side, Pumpkin Maple Crunch is the dessert version. Orange peel and butter up top, pumpkin in the middle, and caramel, maple, pecan and vanilla at the base. It smells like the pie cooling on the counter instead of the field it came from.
If fall means apple picking
Gilded Orchard is for the people who still talk about that one perfect orchard day. Apple, strawberry and plum on top, peach and raspberry in the middle, and a warm base of amber, cedar and patchouli. It's fruity, but the woods underneath keep it grounded, like the last golden afternoon before the leaves really start falling.
For a cozier take, Caramel Harvest is crisp apple and apple cider wrapped in caramel and caramelized sugar with a little spice. Think caramel apples at a fall festival, sticky fingers and all.
If you're more of a fireside, sweater weather person
Autumn's Allure is the one I reach for when the windows are still cracked but the furnace just kicked on for the first time. Apple, cinnamon and clove meet pine, eucalyptus, juniper and cranberry over cedar. It's fresh and warm at the same time, which is exactly what those in-between October days feel like.
And if you want something with a little more depth, Maple Whiskey Apples brings apple, orange and cinnamon together with bourbon, coconut and butter, then finishes with vanilla and maple. Baked apples with a little kick, perfect for a slow Saturday night in.
If Halloween is your holiday
Halloween Haven is our cozy take on spooky season. Cardamom and apple, pumpkin and brown sugar, then black pepper, vanilla, clove, cinnamon, cream and praline. It smells like a warm kitchen on a chilly October night, which is my kind of scary.
For something a little moodier, Twilight Moon is green leaves and pear, plum with cinnamon and sugar, and a soft finish of smoke and sandalwood. It's the quiet stretch between day and night when the porch lights first come on.
A few tips for burning your fall candles
Every one of these is a 9oz coconut soy candle with a cotton wick and about 45 to 50 hours of burn time, poured by hand in small batches at our shop in Morrow, Ohio. To get the most out of that time, let the first burn go long enough for the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the jar. That first melt pool sets the memory for every burn after it, and it's the best way to avoid tunneling. Trim your wick to about a quarter inch before you light it each time, and give it a rest after a few hours.
Speaking of resting, every candle comes with its own playlist. Scan the code on the label, press play when you light it, and when the music ends after about two hours, it's your cue to blow it out. And when the wax is finally gone, there's a wildflower seed kit tucked inside so your empty jar can start its next chapter as a little planter.
Come smell them in person
If you can't decide, that's honestly the best excuse to come see us. Every scent on our shelves is open to sniff at our shop inside the Morrow Arts Center, and I'm always happy to help you find the one that takes you back. You can also flip through The Scent Swatch or take the scent quiz to narrow it down from home.
Shop the whole fall lineup in candles, or bring your favorite into every room with the matching wax melts, room sprays and body care.
Happy fall, friends.
